Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam or A. P. J. Abdul (15 October 1931 – 27 July 2015), was the 11th President of India who was a scientist turned statesman., Kalam was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, where he studied physics and aerospace engineering.

He worked as a scientist and science administrator at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was consequently involved in India’s civilian space programme and military missile development struggles. As a result, he came to be known as the Missile Man of India after working on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology.

Furthermore, he played a fundamental administrative, technical, and political part in India’s Pokhran-II nuclear investigations in 1998. Kalam was the 11th President of India in 2002. He received several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna.
